Ambassador and Consul of Malaysia visit our school
Last Thursday and Friday on the 6th and 7th August 2009 we had the pleasure of meeting with H.E. the Ambassador of Malaysia, Abdullah Faiz Zain, his wife Mdm. Wan Ehsan Taib, his son Amzar Faiz and the Consul Mr. Razali Abdul Rahman.
The aim of this visit was to promote Malaysian scholarships and to have a cultural exchange for professionals and students.
His visit was partly due to the fact that English teacher, María Teresa Paz, who is new to Mater Dei, was awarded a scholarship from Malaysia in 2006 and spent one month there.
This event in honour of the Ambassador was attended by authorities from the Municipality, the heads of the Parents' Union and student representatives from each class .
Our honourable guests were impressed with the artistic performances from various student groups, including the choir, the duo of guitar and violin directed by teacher Sergio Perez, the fantasy of Cueca presented by teacher Claudia Vargas with students from 6th grade, the show of our regional dance El Chamamé which was performed by students from 7th and 8th grade, and finally our national dance La Cueca presented by students from 3rd, 5th, 7th, 8th and 1st year of Secondary School.
This celebration was presented both in Spanish and English, because the Ambassador does not speak Spanish. We would like to thank Mrs. Paula Requena Magallanes, English teacher here at Mater Dei for her translation.
The following day, Mr. Faiz and his companions walked around our school with the principal Mdn. Juana Pradenas, teacher María Teresa Paz who translated the conversation and Mr. Jaime González, in charge of Photography and Computing, visiting classrooms and observing the work we do here at school.
Our thanks to the Ambassador and the Consul for such a magnificent visit, and also thanks to the staff of the school for their commitment to their jobs.
Embajador y Cónsul de Malasia visitan nuestro colegio
Los días jueves 06 y viernes 07 de agosto de 2009 tuvimos la grata e importante visita del Embajador de Malasia, el señor Abdullah Faiz Zain, su señora Wan Ehsan Taib, su hijo Amzar Faiz y el Cónsul Razali Abdul Rahman.
El motivo de la visita es promocionar las Becas que ofrece este país y lograr un intercambio cultural tanto entre profesionales como estudiantes. Además, visitó específicamente nuestro colegio ya que, este año, ingresó a trabajar con nosotros la profesora de inglés señora María Teresa Paz Cáceres, quien estuvo becada en Malasia.
El acto en homenaje al Embajador contó con la presencia de las autoridades de nuestra comuna, la directiva del Centro General de Padres y Apoderados, las directivas de los estudiantes y padres y apoderados.
Nuestras ilustres visitas quedaron gratamente impresionados por las aptitudes artísticas de nuestros estudiantes: el coro y dúo de guitarra y violín dirigido por el profesor Sergio Pérez, La fantasía en Cueca presentada por la profesora Claudia Vargas con alumnas de sexto año básico y finalmente la presentación de nuestro baile regional "El Chamamé" con alumnos y alumnas de séptimo y octavo año y nuestro querido baile nacional "La Cueca" ejecutado por alumnos de tercero, quinto, séptimo, octavo y primero medio.
Cabe destacar, que este acto tuvo traducción simultánea al inglés debido a que el embajador no habla español. La encargada de realizar esta importante misión fue nuestra profesora de inglés la señora Paula Requena Magallanes.
El día viernes, el señor Embajador pudo recorrer nuestro colegio en compañía de la Directora señora Juana Pradenas, la profesora María Teresa quien hizo de intérprete y el profesor Jaime González encargado de Informática y Fotografía, visitando salas y conociendo en terreno nuestro trabajo.
Nuestros agradecimientos al Embajador y Cónsul por tan significativa visita y gracias a todo nuestro personal por el compromiso y dedicación.
